CM-5kV Examiner is a compact, hand held, battery operated unit that is used to detect and locate defects in conductive instrument surfaces. The Examiner uses low frequency high voltage generators that deliver a stabilized DC output via a probe to an inspection electrode. If the electrode encounters a pinhole or bare spot as you move the inspection electrode along the coated laparoscopic instrument's surface, a small current flows. This actuates a visible spark (non-hazardous) at the point of contact and generates both a visible and audible alarm in the unit.
